Life By Tennis Ball Kevin Macarius A. Florentin – Ateneo de Manila, NCR Early this year, Kevin grew interest in tennis. He read and researched information about it and practiced on court. Why the Rabbit Lost the Race Chrystene Judy M. Celeste – Bonfal Elementary School , Nueva Viscaya As soon as Chrystene could start talking, she already showed signs of a talent towards storytelling. She could concoct a story on the spot which gave joy to her audience. Her participation in her school’s Chess team thought her to think sharp and intelligently. Her ability to see things at a different perspective inspired her to write her own interpretation why the Rabbit lost the race to the Turtle. And because of this, we are all reminded that things, no matter how awful they are, always have a brighter side.
Tubig at Langis sa Langkay Marasgui Anna Larisa Viktoria Umali Vega – Miriam College , NCR Last summer, Lara visited Iloilo and went to Guimaras. From the highest point of Guimaras Island called "Balaang Bukid", Lara was captivated by the Guimaras sea with its crystal clear waters. Barely four months after her visit, what Lara saw on television saddened her. The Guimaras water she loves is now completely ruined because of the oil spill. This gave Lara the idea to write about Guimaras, hence the title of her story (Marasgui is scrambled syllables of Guimaras). In the future, Lara dreams of competing as a triathlon athlete and be a successful veterinarian, affirming her love for sports and animals.
Foiled by Instant Messaging Lorenzo Quiogue – Ateneo de Manila, NCR Inspired by spy books and crime-detective stories on TV, Lorenzo challenged his witty and playful imagination to come up with his own piece. His skill to formulate spontaneous jokes and riddles is truly enjoyed by his family and friends so he decided to share his talent through writing. Taking advantage of the internet, specifically instant messaging, Lorenzo believes that anyone can solve crimes and mysteries through the power of technology. The eagle, according to Vanz, is the bravest and most intimidating animal on earth – no bird dares to fly in the sky once it soars. He admires the long feathers of the Philippine eagle, especially on its head which makes it the most beautiful animal. In all his achievements, Vanz remains busy with more competitions and for that, he thanks the Lord above for continuous guidance.

Bata..Hindi Ka Nag-iisa Weljane S. Quillo – VS Bangoy Elementary School , Davao Jane purposely wrote her story to send a clear message to kids experiencing her same situation – you are not alone. Her true story of bravery and hope living without parents did not discourage her to achieve her dreams. However, if God would grant her a wish, it would still be seeing her mother and experience her warm touch once again.

Ang Magkaibigang Liyon at Daga Jared Dawal – Davao City Naturally a playful and happy-go-lucky kid, Jared attempts to give extra life and adventure to the characters of his story – the lion and the rat. Among all animals, he always admired the lion’s reputation of being brave and being ‘king’. But this does not mean that the lion is arrogant and intimidating – so Jared chose the rat, mischievous, coward and lion-paw sized. An unlikely couple to go on a journey? You bet Jared’s imagination is not just in the jungle, but who knows where it goes?
Ang Nuno at Ang Butihing Kapatid Charisse Joy J. Macas – Yumbing National High School , Camiguin If Charisse sees a REAL nuno someday, she wouldn’t get scared. Parazo – Christian Colleges of Southeast Asia, Davao City With consistency in academic excellence, Eunice at her young age thinks that the best place a kid should spend his/her time is in the classroom.
